P&O Cruises and celebrity chef and restaurateur Luke Mangan are again teaming up to produce a new Salt Grill by Luke Mangan restaurant on-board the Brisbane-based superliner, Pacific Dawn.
The restaurant will be a key addition during an extensive refit of the ship later this month and will debut on the ship's May 29 sailing. It follows the popularity of the first Salt Grill by Luke Mangan, which is located on the Pacific Jewel and which was unveiled in December last year.
A third restaurant will operate on the cruise line's next superliner, Pacific Pearl, which will be launched in Auckland in December this year.
According to Sture Myrmell, vice president hotel operations of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, the menu at the latest Salt Grill will be similar to Pacific Jewel's, which features some Mangan favourites including crab omelette with miso mustard broth and liquorice parfait with lime syrup.
"The restaurant consistently books out for the entire cruise so we turn tables twice for dinner and are also open for lunch on sea days to accommodate passengers who can't get in for dinner. It's a phenomenal response," Myrmell said.
"We're particularly pleased to be able to incorporate an open kitchen in the design of Pacific Dawn's Salt Grill, so that our passengers can enjoy all the culinary action as well as great cuisine."
Commenting on the new restaurant, Mangan said his association with P&O Cruises has gone from strength to strength. "I'm thrilled to be opening Salt Grill on the Pacific Dawn," he said. "The quality of the restaurant and the produce is what keeps our standards so high. My goal is to have many Salt Grills on P&O Cruises' fleet, as I believe it is a perfect fit."
