Events in The Islands of Tahiti 2024

The Islands of Tahiti are set to host a series of exceptional events in 2024, promising a dynamic blend of culture, sports, and adventure. From challenging trail races to world-class surfing competitions and vibrant cultural festivals, this year's events will showcase the diverse allure of the beautiful Tahitian islands. Depending on when you plan your trip to the Tahitian Islands you’ll be able to time it perfectly with one of these exhilarating and fun events. 

Moorea Marathon (March 30th - 31st)

A not-to-be-missed event for passionate runners, the annual Moorea Marathon will take place on March 30th-31st in 2024. The marathon is renowned for its spectacular course, placing it among the world’s most stunning exotic marathons, showcasing breathtaking landscapes and lush nature. Beyond the challenging race, the Moorea Marathon offers participants the special opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the island.

The 2024 edition of the Moorea Marathon will be linked to the Marquesas Marathon, with opportunities for athletes to qualify for the Marquesas event. On day one of the event, there will be the semi-marathon, 10km, and kids (7-9) races, while the marathon, 4.5km, 3km, and 1.5km races are scheduled for day two.

Tahiti Pearl Regatta (May 8th - 11th)

The annual sailing event, Tahiti Pearl Regatta takes place on May 8th - 11th, combining competitive racing with the unparalleled beauty of the Leeward Islands. Each year, it brings together more than 300 local and international participants for several days of racing and festivities. The event takes place in the magnificent lagoon that surrounds the islands of Raiatea and Taha’a, offering 2 races a day that traverse courses within the lagoon and between the passes where competitors have to skillfully navigate the currents.

Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o (May 22nd - 31st)

The iconic Teahupo’o waves beckon surf enthusiasts from all around the world to the Tahiti Pro Teahupo’o, a premier international surfing competition organised by the World Surf League (WSL). This legendary break is renowned for its big, powerful waves that draw the world's best surfers to test their skills and push the boundaries of the sport. The event is a dramatic clash of man versus nature, where surfers ride towering waves and execute gravity-defying maneuvers. 

XTERRA Trail Moorea (May 25th– 26th)

Choose from four challenging courses, ranging from the new 100 km trail to the more accessible 12 km trail run. Miss Tahiti (June 21st)

Held annually in The Islands of Tahiti, the Miss Tahiti beauty pageant is a cherished cultural event that celebrates the beauty and grace of Polynesian women. More than ‘just’ a beauty competition, Miss Tahiti honours the vahine, the embodiment of Polynesian femininity, who embody elegance, intelligence, and a deep connection to their heritage. Each contestant showcases her unique qualities through traditional Polynesian attire, contemporary fashion, and a captivating talent performance. The winner not only represents the island's beauty but also becomes a role model for younger generations, promoting cultural values and inspiring others to embrace their Polynesian identity.

Heiva I Tahiti (July 4th - 20th)

The annual Heiva I Tahiti is an unmissable event in the Polynesian cultural calendar, dating back to 1881, making it among the world's oldest festivals. Held from July 4th to July 20th, it's a vibrant celebration full of emotion and pride that renews traditions, history and the Polynesian spirit every year. It’s a colourful celebration of traditional chants, music and dancing, in a competition that brings together dance troupes from every corner of French Polynesia, with the evening performances being a dazzling display of colour and movement. Over several weeks, these competing dance troupes display their artistic skills in dancing and singing competitions in a truly captivating, and memorable occasion for the lucky spectators.

Teahupo’o Surf Olympics (July 26th – August 5th)

Set against the backdrop of Tahiti's dramatic coastline, the Teahupo’o Surf Olympics event promises to be an electrifying spectacle, showcasing the world's best surfers as they challenge the legendary waves of this iconic surf break. Known for its powerful, barreling waves, Teahupo'o is a test of skill, courage, and athleticism, demanding exceptional technique and unwavering commitment from the athletes. XTERRA Tahiti Triathlon (October 12th– 13th)

Mark your calendars for the 9th edition of the XTERRA Tahiti Triathlon, an exhilarating triathlon race set to take place on the stunning island of Moorea. This year's event promises to be the biggest yet, with over 300 participants eager to test their endurance and skills in a breathtaking tropical setting. The main event, the "Air Tahiti Nui," will showcase both local and international triathletes vying for a coveted spot in the XTERRA World Championships.

Hawaiki Nui Va'a (October 30th – November 2nd)

Set amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Society Islands, the Hawaiki Nui Va'a is an iconic event that showcases the enduring power of Polynesian tradition and the exhilarating spirit of outrigger canoe racing. This legendary competition tests the endurance and skill of hundreds of teams, as they navigate the rugged coastlines and tranquil lagoons of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha'a, and Bora Bora. Over three exhilarating stages, each team of six paddlers pushes their physical and mental limits, their rhythmic strokes echoing the deep connection between Polynesians and the sea.

Hura Tapairu (November 27th – December 7th)

Hura Tapairu, a captivating dance competition that showcases the vibrant Polynesian spirit, is a must-see event for anyone visiting The Islands of Tahiti. Held annually in the heart of Papeete, this grand spectacle features small groups (30 artists maximum on stage) presenting original creations that blend traditional Polynesian dance moves with modern interpretations. Hura Tapairu is more than just a dance competition; it's a celebration of Polynesian culture, artistry, and the enduring spirit of a people deeply connected to their land and traditions.
