Tramspotting: Light Rail Around The World

Adelaide Tram Type H

I travel a lot, and while doing so, I try to keep my carbon footprint to a minimum. One small way to do this is to ride public transport wherever I can. If I have a few hours to kill in a major city, I don't mind taking a tram ride as a cheap excursion.

Here is a collection of my original images taken while touring around the world.

Just so you know, light rail is significantly more economical and carbon-friendly than private cars, offering drastic per-passenger emission reductions (often 75-90% less) due to electrification and high capacity, making it a cornerstone of sustainable urban transport, though initial construction costs are high and overall lifecycle costs vary by system. Compared to cars, rail boasts higher energy efficiency and lower friction, while compared to flying, it's vastly superior, cutting emissions by up to 97% for shorter routes, though detailed economic comparisons depend on specific project lifecycle analyses.

How many of these trams have you travelled on?

I also have an album of tram and light rail postcards. (Yes, I am a nerd)
