Sails Meet the Maker dinners!
After the success of Meet the Maker wine dinners at Sails restaurant last year, dates are now set for this season with an impressive line up of Australian boutique vineyards including Peacock Hill Wines (Hunter Valley, NSW); Kilikanoon Wines (Clare Valley, SA); Langmeil Wines (Barossa Valley, SA) and Oakridge Wines (Yarra Valley, VIC).
Sails on Lavender Bay is located in Sydney’s quaint north shore suburb of McMahons Point, offering diners spectacular iconic views of Sydney Harbour, the Bridge and Opera House. This fine dining restaurant boasts a modern interior fit out by highly awarded architects SJB Interiors; an inspiring contemporary Australian menu reflecting the seasons & freshness of local produce; and an award winning wine list comprising 130 Australian & international wines.
Head Chef, Nathan Darling has created a 5 course degustation menu with matching glasses of wine by each vineyard. Cost is $120 per person, which includes all food & wine. Both the chef and winemaker will be present at each dinner to discuss the menu and wines served, proving to be an enjoyable and educational evening for guests….and well priced for fine dining!
Commencing Tuesday 15th & Wednesday 16th June, these dinners will feature Peacock Hill, a micro-boutique vineyard in the heart of the picturesque Hunter Valley producing award winning wines by winemaker George Tsiros from the classic varieties of Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Each of the wines has a story behind its name (and perhaps even more than one!).
On Wednesday 28th July, this wine dinner will showcase Kilikanoon Wines. This boutique winery located in the heart of South Australia’s stunning Clare Valley has a strong international reputation. Since 1997 and his first Clare Valley vintage, founder and winemaker Kevin Mitchell has produced wines of individuality with strong regional and varietal definition.
Langmeil Wines from the Barossa Valley, SA is the feature vineyard for the dinner on Wednesday 25th August. Chief Winemaker, Paul Lindner and Winemaker, Tyson Bitter produce world class wines using Langmeil's own individual style while taking advantage of the distinctive hallmarks of the Barossa. Australian Wine Companion has rated Langmeil Winery five stars, placing it amongst the very top echelon of Australian Wineries.
And the finale dinner on Wednesday 22nd September will feature Oakridge Wines from the Yarra Valley, VIC. Since 2002, winemaker David Bicknell has been pouring his heart and soul into producing award-winning wines for Oakridge. With an approach to wine-making that incorporates everything from the soil type from which the vines grow to the type of music that is played during vinification, David’s ability to create remarkable wine stems from his intuition and innovative tactics….making Oakridge a favourite in the Yarra Valley.
‘Meet the Maker dinners are perfect for guests wanting a fine dining experience with an opportunity to learn about some of Australia’s finest vineyards.’ said Greg Anderson, owner of Sails on Lavender Bay. ‘These wine dinners proved to be most popular last year, due to the quality food and wines served, the educational aspect and the overall price’.
Wine dinners start at 7.00pm and bookings are essential, due to limited seats. Guests can also purchase any of the wines tasted during the evening, courtesy of the vineyards.
Only an 8 minute ride from Circular Quay will tempt anyone to make the journey by ferry (as Sails is located next to McMahons Point wharf), otherwise restaurant is accessible by taxi, car, public bus, or water taxi.
