Ready, Set, GLOW

Known throughout the world for its cutting-edge culture, innovative and creative arts communities, and beautiful beachfront setting, on September 25, 2010, Santa Monica, California will host, for the second time on Santa Monica State Beach, the nation’s only dusk ‘til dawn biennial outdoor arts festival, known as Glow.

Glow is an all-night cultural experience that is free to the public and features original commissioned exhibits by 25 leading artists from around the world. These artists re-imagine Santa Monica Beach and surrounding areas as a playground for their thoughtful and participatory temporary art installations, using the nighttime backdrop of the legendary Southern Californian beach to bring the artworks dramatically to life.

The 2010 Glow festival promises to dazzle the hundreds of thousands of expected attendees with art exhibits from award-winning and critically acclaimed artists worldwide. To date, Glow 2010 artists include, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot (Séte, France), Lee Boroson (Brooklyn NY), Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (Montreal, Canada), Steve Roden (Los Angeles) and Jennifer Steinkamp (Los Angeles).

Founded in 2008, by the City of Santa Monica’s award-winning Cultural Affairs department, the first Glow, held in 2008, was attended by nearly 150,000 people and showcased imaginative displays and installations, some of which included water monsters made out of recycled bottles in a grotto underneath Santa Monica Pier, an orchestral performance on the solar-powered Ferris wheel and a 20 foot water-wall light show.

Glow 2010 will be an experiential sight not to be missed. In celebration of Glow 2010, nine of Santa Monica’s leading hotels are offering special destination packages that include everything from late check-out, complimentary breakfast, VIP reception access and special Glow picnic baskets, to “glowing” cocktails and artist experiences, all with special rates.
