Jetstar has just confirmed it will launch four weekly A330 flights between Cairns and Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan from 01 Apr 2010.
The widely expected announcement follows a deal reached between the carrier and Cairns airport last week (TD Wed).
Jetstar will also from the same date double its domestic flights between Cairns and Melbourne, with the addition of a second daily A320 return service.
CEO Bruce Buchanan said the move helps provide a "new high water mark" for Jetstar's operations in Cairns, confirming that the carrier had seen a 20% year on year first quarter rise in passenger numebrs on its Japanese international services.
"Over one in five of our Japanese passengers remain first time international flyers, showing Jetstar's ability to stimulate new markets for travel from Asia to Australia," he said.
