Sydney steps up for Holiday Inn Pillow Fight
The sweltering heat was no deterrent to more than 500 Sydneysiders who met the challenge on Friday 27 November, battling their mates and colleagues in the first Holiday Inn Pillow Fight in Circular Quay.
An all-expenses-paid trip to the new Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali was the ultimate prize for the contenders, with each participant also among the first in Australia to take home their choice of a Firm or Soft Holiday Inn signature pillow. The pillow fight clearly attracted a tough crowd; nearly three out of every four fighters (72%) liked their pillows firm.
The Holiday Inn Pillow Fight celebrated the changes underway at the 3,296 Holiday Inn hotels and resorts worldwide, as part of the largest relaunch the global travel industry has ever seen. These changes – including the introduction of signature pillows – are currently being rolled out across all 22 Holiday Inn hotels in Australasia.
While the white Holiday Inn Pillow Fighter dome attracted hundreds of passers-by, over 200 had pre-registered at www.holidayinnpillowfighter.com and fronted up with mates to test their mettle. Footage and photos of the fighters and the event have since been loaded onto the website.
“The Holiday Inn Pillow Fight really captured Sydney’s imagination. It was like a carnival in the fight dome, with NRL referee Tony Archer calling each bout and our master of ceremonies whipping up the ever-growing crowd’s excitement,” said Holiday Inn brand director Asia Pacific, Jennifer Yuen.
“It was great to see people of all ages and walks of life getting into the spirit of the event. One thing the event drove home was the level of talent among the contestants. Like all sports, pillow fighting appears to be serious business for Australians – and there’s clearly room for us to make this a larger event,” Jennifer said.
